Assistant Head Teacher

with specific responsibility for pastoral and

Salary Range L6-10

Lea Hall Academy, Kitts Green, Birmingham, B33 9QY

 Contract – Full Time, Permanent

Start Date – September 2023 or January 2024

Lea Hall Academy is a special school for young people with social, emotional and mental health difficulties (SEMH) aged 5-14.  Lea Hall Academy is part of Forward Education Trust, a growing Multi Academy Trust established in 2017 serving special schools across the West Midland area.

We are seeking ethical leaders with a track record of outstanding practise within an SEMH provision. The successful candidates will be exemplary teachers who are highly experienced, enthusiastic, and motivated to share in the leadership and management of our school.

We are an exciting point in our development as a school. Having moved into a brand-new building in September 2021, we are now re-structuring our leadership team and are keen to appoint a new Assistant Headteacher. Our new leadership structure means that roles and responsibilities are being re-distributed across the school.

Our new Assistant Headteacher roles will be responsible for the parts of our provision that make us truly special! This will include leading on our individualised pastoral support for our pupils, liaising with parents/carers, managing interventions and reviews of EHCPs, acting as deputy DSL and co-ordinating the daily operational issues for key stage 2. The Lea Hall staff team already includes an experienced and expert group of pastoral support staff who provide responsive support throughout the day and who will liaise closely with our new Assistant Headteacher around interventions. We expect our Assistant Headteachers to provide some PPA cover in classrooms up to 0.4 FTE (2 days a week), but there will be no other teaching commitment.

Forward Education Trust provides a wide range of professional development opportunities for all its staff. This includes online learning, school based and Trust wide training, support to access national professional qualifications and individualised advice / mentoring around professional development. In addition, our new staff team at Lea Hall will have opportunities to further their expertise in working with pupils with SEMH, ASD, sensory needs and speech and language support. We are allocating specific time at the start of the new school year to induct and develop our new leadership team.
