Be a volunteer at Forward Education Trust

Have you ever considered volunteering at Forward Education Trust, to be a Trustee (Director) or a member of one of our school’s Local Academy Councils?

Forward Education Trust (FET) is a non-profit group of academies working across Birmingham and its neighbouring local authorities including Sandwell and Solihull. The Trust is driven by improving both the personal and academic achievements of its pupils, all of whom have special educational needs, making every day the best it can possibly be for each pupil.

FET is lead by CEO, Simon Dilkes who along with the Central Team look after the day-to-day running of the Trust. Trustees (sometimes known as Directors), work directly with the CEO to set the strategic vision and direction, as well as ensuring that the statutory responsibilities given to the Trust by the Secretary of State for Education are fulfilled.

Each school has a Headteacher, who runs their school. Headteachers are supported by their Local Academy Council, a group of volunteers wanting to support a particular school, working with representatives of parents and staff as advocates for each school.

We’re looking for volunteers to join our Board or our Local Academy Councils. Dependant on the skills you have, the time you can give or your particular interest, we’d like to talk to you about how we can direct you to the best opportunity for you.

For both roles, there would be meetings to attend, papers to read and advice and support you can give. All our volunteers tell us that it has changed them as people and they’ve found genuine fulfilment in being able to help. We want our Trust Board and Local Academy Councils to reflect the diversity of our pupil and parent population, so we encourage interest from everyone.

All enquiries are dealt with sensitively and appointments are based on merit, following a fair and transparent opportunity for you to understand the role.
