Engagement with parents and carers

We think it’s important that we have good relationships with the parents and carers of children who attend a Forward Education Trust school.

Each school will have a slightly different approach that’s adaptable given the needs of the child and their family or care situation.  We like to appreciate each family’s individual circumstances and understand how that impacts on a child while they’re in school and while they’re at home.  We respect privacy and confidentiality, but we also have the responsibility to safeguard children, whether they’re in school or not.

We like to encourage informal communication links, so we readily respond to telephone calls or emails asking us questions or wanting to know how things have gone in school.  We’re conscious that some of our children come to school on school transport, so a dis-connect exists between us and the home.  We have a good relationship with transport drivers and guides and let them know important things for the journey.

We can also communicate easily with parents using Class Dojo, a closed communication system with individual parents where we can send and receive important messages.

Each year, we run a formal survey of parents with our partner company Edurio.  This is an anonymous survey, asking a select set of questions and we spend time analysing the responses and feedback.  It’s just another way of us actively responding to the voice of parents and carers and it helps us to improve what we do.

If any parent or carer wants to know more about their child in school, they just need to contact the school office and my colleagues will be pleased to help.
