As we work with our children through their education and school life, what we’re working towards are the outcomes and hopes for each of our young people.
At Forward Education Trust, we look at the education, health & care for each of our children, supported by partner organisations and bodies. What we’re working towards will depend on each individual child, but broadly they can be summarised in 4 key areas, written from the perspective of a young person:
My Skills for Living
- I have developed the right skills to be as independent as possible
- I have the skills to manage my own life, as far as possible
- People around me are ambitious for me
- I can make my own decisions about my own life and care
- I am able to express myself, speak out and be listened to
My Family, My Friends, My Community
- I have an active and interesting life
- My family is able to have an ordinary and a happy life most of the time
- I am able to play, have friends and socialise
- I feel safe and valued in my home and community
Health, Happy, Creative Me
- I’m as healthy as I can be
- The carers in my life are as healthy as they can be
- I enjoy my life
- People let me be me
- I am able to use my creative skills in meaningful activity
My Learning, My Earning, My Volunteering
- I am able to learn and/or earn
- I am able to work and/or volunteer
- I can use my skills where I live
- I feel that I am valued and make a difference in work and/or volunteering
These aims help us in our approach to children and young people with SEND. They keep us focused on the individual, helps us to understand how a multi-agency approach can benefit the individual and supports an aspirational view of a child’s future.
